OpenClaim is building a guided search tool that helps individuals and organizations identify possible unclaimed property matches and continue through official state claim processes. We are seeking approved access to publicly releasable, machine-readable unclaimed property records.
What OpenClaim does
OpenClaim helps users organize search clues — names, prior names, business names, DBAs, old addresses, household connections, and organization history — identify possible matches in approved public data, and continue through official state claim processes.
We are not requesting access to scrape or automate public search portals. OpenClaim is evaluating compliant data access paths and will not mark a state as searchable unless an official or approved source is available.
What OpenClaim does not do
OpenClaim does not:
- scrape or automate public search portals
- file claims for users
- represent claimants
- charge recovery fees
- collect claim documents
- request Social Security numbers or bank information
- bypass official state processes
- present itself as a government agency
Data handling commitments
- Only use public or releasable fields from official or approved sources
- Display source state and freshness date
- Respect state-specific use restrictions
- Remove or update records upon official request
- Route possible matches to official state claim pages
- Do not imply state affiliation
- Do not contact owners on behalf of the state
- Do not sell owner lists

- Coverage notes for display to users
- Official-portal-only routing where downloadable data is restricted
